2010 Competitions

This year, Team 1717 is excited to be competing with the 2010 robot, PenguinBot V, at two regionals: San Diego and Los Angeles.

The San Diego Regional took place on March 4th through 6th, at the San Diego Sports Arena. We were finalists and came in second place along with our two amazing alliance partners: Monte Vista Robotics Team 115, from Cupertino, CA and Team 2543, the TitanBots, from Chula Vista, CA. Team 1717 won the Motorola Quality Award, which rewards quality of design and functionality.

Additionally, one of our team members, Nicole Schauser, received the FIRST Dean's List Finalist Award, which recognizes the "devotion of some of FIRST’s most outstanding FRC students." This is a huge honor, and we are extremely proud of Nicole and lucky to have her on our team!

At the Los Angeles Regional, held from March 25th through March 27th, Team 1717 took first place!! We were fortunate to be partnered with the renowned Beach Bots, Team 330, from Hermosa Beach, CA, and the impressive Wildcats, Team 1452, from Los Angeles, CA. The finals were tough, lasting four gruelingly close matches, but our excellent cooperation with our alliance members ensured our success.

At this regional, we gave tours to 250 elementary school students, a highly successful venture which has perhaps established a new team tradition and been a factor in winning the Engineering Inspiration Award, which "celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community."

Due to the outcome of the LA Regional, we were privileged to attend the international Championship in Atlanta, Georgia. At Atlanta, we made it to the quarter finals and received the Motorola Quality Award!! This means that Penguinbot V was chosen as the best-designed robot at the Championship. We are thrilled to have been awarded this honor for a second consecutive year!
