Robots Invade Las Vegas

Fifty robots, fifty teams of high school students, fifty groups of dedicated mentors.  Teams from Germany, Holland, Mexico and Australia added to the challenge with large enthusiastic teams to match the enthusiasm of the D’Penguineers.  This is the challenge that the local Dos Pueblos High School robotics team 1717 stepped up to this weekend.  Fresh off a victory in Long Beach two weeks ago, Team 1717 is back again to make a statement.  Starting the day off right, they won their first match 80-44, but had trouble locking in their target the second game, and lost 74

D'Penguineers Heading Back to World Robotics Championship

In college basketball, March Madness will take a month. At the FIRST Robotics championship in Long Beach, the madness took just two days, and at the end, the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy’s Team 1717 (DPEA) overcame dozens of tough opponents and a sticky wheel to emerge as the champions.

FIRST LEGO League (FLL), a program under the FIRST umbrella organization, is a program geared towards elementary school students with the goal of fostering real-world and hands-on scientific learning. Each year, students across the world engage in this competition. In Santa Barbara, participating mentors and students alike have already performed remarkably well in this year’s FLL season.

DPEA takes on the world—and wins major grant

After competing against dozens of worthy organizations from around the world, the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy (DPEA) emerged as one of a handful of winners of a $10,000 grant from the Procter & Gamble Alumni Association. P&G selected DPEA as one of this year’s winners for the project-based science education program’s success in teaching students how to effectively run a business.
