Future Growth
California voters recently passed proposition 1-D, which allocates $500 million for new construction to improve career education programs such as the DPEA. We submitted a grant to the California Department of Education to build a state-of-the-art facility for the DPEA. This proposed 11,000 square-foot facility will cost $6 million and will include five teaching stations that will be dedicated to the Engineering Academy. These facilities include a 4,000 square-foot machine shop, electronics lab, computer lab, wood shop, and mechanical engineering lab. With a new facility, the DPEA will be able to offer more classes, designed for students with different levels of academic preparation, and thus reach a broader spectrum of students. All students will culminate the four-year program with the capstone course, ROP Robotics, in which they will build a robot in six weeks for the international FIRST competition. As the program expands, we plan to have two FIRST Robotics team! Because the award is a matching grant, we have to come up with $3 million to match the state's $3 million award. A parent committee has been organized to orchestrate this effort, and every family of the DPEA is involved in supporting the Academy. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy, please contact us.
