In addition to academic classes, the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy also provides students with many different opportunities for extracurricular enrichment.
The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy depends on many different student-run business teams to function. These teams are responsible for, among other things, ensuring the safety of the machine shop, updating and securing the computers in the computer lab, and writing newsletters and press releases for the DPEA. The DPEA has about 20 business teams, each led by a mentor and composed of sophomores through seniors.
The DPEA works with local community organizations to provide community service opportunities to DPEA students while also giving back to the community.
The DPEA works with many local companies to place students in paid internships over the summer after their junior or senior year. These students have a chance to develop skills in real-life situations and gain valuable work experience.
Parents are able to volunteer with the DPEA in many ways! Business Team mentors are often the parents of DPEA students. We also have parents who volunteer to teach soldering skills to our sophomores and juniors. In addition, we have an active group of parents who are part of the CIA (Community In Action) which meets the 1st Monday of each month in the Raytheon Electrical Engineering Laboratory throughout the school year. There are three subcommittees of the CIA: Appreciation and Recognition Committee, Tour Coordination Committee, and Community Events Committee. DPEA parents are welcome to join us anytime!
