AP Physics: Grade 11

This is a standard Advanced Placement course that satisfies the strict curriculum guidelines established by the College Board. This course is an integral component of the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy (DPEA) four-year plan because it provides the strong physics foundation necessary for the pursuit of a science- or engineering-oriented career. This is an advanced physics course which covers mechanics, thermodynamics waves, optics, electromagnetism, and modern physics. For a more detailed description of the content of this course you can visit the College Board website.

Approximately six weeks of regular instruction time remain after Advanced Placement tests are administered in early May. During these six weeks, students prepare projects for a physics competition held with other schools in our district. These applied physics/engineering design projects require students to apply the physics knowledge that they have acquired throughout the year in order to achieve certain goals. In past years the projects for these competitions have included trebuchets, solar ovens, and gravity powered cars. This course is a Lab Science which meets the “d” requirement for the University of California. This course also qualifies for a weighted grade.
